In Singapore in July 2005, London won the right to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In the presentation in Singapore, London made a promise to the world that it would use the power of the Games to inspire millions of young people to participate in sporting activities. This became known as the Singapore Promise. But the recent economic crisis has lead to expenditure cuts for the 2012 Games. This article will explore the extent to which London is able to deliver on this promise to provide sporting and volunteering opportunities to young people given the current economic situation.
